LNG Power Barge

LNG power for emerging markets

MAR focus on managing projects that require liquefied natural gas (LNG) as primary energy source, and use marine solutions to supply competitive power in emerging markets. The company has developed a novel LNG fueled power barge solution that incorporates an LNG receiving terminal.

The system’s scalability, moderate capex per MWh and efficient construction allows for very competitive power tariffs. Our Technology was established in 2014 and combines experience in LNG logistics, LNG/marine engineering, marine new building projects and financing solutions.

The LNG to Power Opportunity

Barriers to the wider application of LNG as fuel

  • High capex for import terminals, storage and regas
  • Export terminals based on large volumes per ship cargo
  • Industry dominated by large multinational gas companies and contractors favouring large projects
  • Historically only high volumes of LNG competitive

The opportunity - the LNG Power and Regas Barge solution

  • Power generation and/or local LNG demand
from 0.2 mtpa LNG creates critical mass to
justify large scale LNG imports (conventional
    LNG cargo size)
  • Large ships – cost efficient transportation and
    storage
  • Barge solution has moderate capex/opex (no
    need for an FSRU)
  • Targeting 50-240MW power segment and
receiving terminal from 0.2 mtpa LNG not well
    served by LNG today
  • Well established technology base
  • Moderate construction risk; complete EPC wrap
  • BEM integration from LNG procurement through
grid interconnection means fewer interfaces and
    reduced end-user risk
  • Additional business opportunity: power and/or
regas barge acts as hub for local/regional
    LNG/gas distribution
